A feather in Disha's cap

The Calcutta Ladies Study Group this year chose Disha Foundation as the NGO in Calcutta for their prestigious award. His Holiness the Dalai Lama conferred the award upon Ms Neena Singh.

About Disha

Disha Foundation: Kolkata, West Bengal, India; The sapling called Disha has blossomed over the years. This blooming sapling has guided hundreds of underprivileged children with its fragrance. Disha flowered from the germination of a beautiful idea inspired by a humble request. A domestic helper of Divyayan, a prestigious Montessori school, asked the principal, Ms. Neena Singh, for a financial loan to fund the tuitions of her son. This set the thought process rolling. Ms. Neena Singh internalised the problem and resolved to proactively address this social quandary. Just as children of rich parents needed help to cope with their studies, so did socially underprivileged children. They needed special guidance as most of them were First Generation Learners and were more vulnerable to undesirable social elements. Moreover, the development of India is directly correlated to the welfare of all children, irrespective of their caste and creed. Disha welcomes willing donors for student meals, books, stationery, education etc. All donations made to Disha Foundation are Tax Exempt under Sec 80G. Donations from anywhere outside India can be made directly into its FCRA account.
